Show

Wonderful weekends doused with rain and wrapped in clouds. Ended with the taste of cream and sugared strawberries. Began with a sale, red lips and blunt fringes. $60 on vintage and a bag of memories. A brown mod dress - 60's hip, a green floral dress - children's fun, a pink tutu - lolita chic. Walking past lemon trees and orchids, rain flecking our hair and bathing our souls. Home, warm toast and a fashion parade. Red, green, tan, pink. Hot toast and rain on our windows. A change of clothes and a change of scenery. Our first adventure, a train full of screaming children and inept parents. Finally, the lights, the sounds and the smells of the Royal Melbourne Show. Coloured metallics racing through the air, children with toys bigger than themselves, and us. Walking hand in hand, like children, laughing and staring at all the colour. Animals first - piglets, long-haired cats and an amorous calf; fluffy puppies, sleepy ducklings and startled horses. Trying the Ferris wheel for the first time, too high, too fast, too much for this old soul. More rides, fast ones, low to the ground. Carnival voices laughing, music, fireworks all blur and swirl together like paint in water. The rain starts again, run for shelter and eat soggy chips and dry burgers. More rides and walking. Japanese dudes with 80's glam hair, bubbles in the air and the sound of chainsaws. Finally, show bags. Filled with chocolate and toys and childish fun I miss. Trekking across the grounds to get a Kewpie doll, I never had one as a child. Too expensive and too irrelevant. I finally got one, the long stick placed in my hand, the glittering, sequinned doll swirling in her black gown in the night sky. A dream fulfilled. Strawberries and cream on our lips as we kissed on our way home, in the rain, under the stars.
