Cold remedy

Nov 04, 2007 19:54

I have a cold I can't get rid of.  I was getting better and now it is stalled again, even with the meds.  I just don't have time to be sick.

I am better at preventing than curing - if you can cure a cold.  Any thoughts would be welcome.

Thanks.

I like to use the herbs Astragalus and Reishi both preventively and if a cold arises. However if that's not doing it sometimes I will add in extra doses of Vitamin C - I try to get Ester C whenever possible as its calcium base makes it easy on the stomach (this is especially important if you're planning on doing large doses) and Echinacea and Goldenseal. I try to aviod going to the Echinacea and Goldenseal right away for a varitey of reasons, but if nothing else is cutting I give them a try. But I will mention this - it sounds like you're pretty busy these days and your cold could be a way of your body telling you that what you most need right now is rest. Just a thought oh, and remember to drink lots of water.

You know, I know some of these things, but I have been so darn exhausted I just couldn't think of them. I have been doing tea with honey and lemon because I could be on the run while I had it.

Thanks for the ideas. I will get right on it, after I have that much anticipated long snooze.

I do appreciate your input.

before you head to bed eat as much raw garlic as you can handle (ground up mixed with olive oil and salt on a pita is my fav) garlic is sophorific in large quantities and has all sorts of good antibacterial qualities too.

That might be tough. I think someone I know from Italy used to do that. I will try. I can see where it might help.

Thank you for your help.

I have done that before - you definitely smell of garlic for a few days, but it dose really help to kick the cold. I like mine on Warm Toast with melted butter.

Garlic toast I could eat all day. I still say it sounds tough with raw garlic, but I can try.

Thanks again.

(This was originally posted in my journal Nov. 2005. Thought I'd move it up (Oct 30th 2007) because it's so yummy and good for what ails ya.)

Sickies have been going around with everyone up here in my corner of CT so I thought I'd share my favorite soup recipe.

For each cup of Chicken Broth toss in:

A smashed slice of Ginger, about 1/4 - 1/2 inch
1/8 cup of fresh Cilantro
1/8 cup fresh Lime or Lemon juice (divided)

Heat & simmer everything except half the lime juice for 10 minutes, strain. Add the remaining lime juice.

Ginger: anti-inflammatory
Cilatro: anti-bacterial
Lime: Vitamin C

If you have any left over, refrigerate with some extra ginger. When you reheat, top off with fresh juice.

We've also thrown in Cayenne to clear the sinuses. And garlic because it's so good for everything.

Also cooked chicken, rice or noodles to make a meal.

But it's lovely just to sip from a mug.

Peppermint does help I think. I haven't tried it in a tea as I am not a big fan aside from the holiday signature peppermint stick ice cream or the candy cane.

Thanks.
