soooo...

i'm in aggieland. and 290 is a monster. after we did picomolo (?) on thursday i drove home in high spirits, laughing off the silly people who were escaping the wrath of hurricane rita, thinking that everyone was overreacting cuz of katrina, blah blah blah.

until i got to 290. and freaked out. the only other time i had seen that many cars there was during the summer when that overloaded eighteen wheeler flipped over and sprawled out over all 3 lanes of traffic. and traffic was NOT MOVING. and i had to get home. and then my mother calls and says, "since when were we having a hurricane?" we had been so busy moving that none of us bothered to watch the news, let alone the weather, for the past couple of days. and the last i had heard of it, it was a tropical storm out by florida. no big deal right?

well then she went to wal-mart to pick up some stuff for the house and ran into complete chaos, completely confused as to why there were masses of people fighting over water, canned foods, and batteries. and got mad that i hadn't informed her of a category 5 hurricane headed our way.

so that makes silly ME. and i wanted to yell at the people to let me pass so that i could go home, but couldn't do a thing about it. until i finally cut through the back way to get to fairfield and breathed a sigh of relief.

and today my uncle calls and tells us to get out of houston NOW, he had been watching the news on the other side of the world, who cares if it's my dad's birthday today? (HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD, EH??) so we threw together as many things as we could stuff into our car and headed out.

and became a part of the madness. literally, it was CHAOTIC. forget road rules, people were making lanes out of the shoulders and the grass on the sides of the roads, people were stranded with overheated cars or ran out of gas, sitting underneath bridges and playing on the side of the road, all at the impressive speed of traveling six miles in one hour. it took us five hours to get to college station. and i had to pee for the LONGEST time but the police were blocking all exits. how EXCRUCIATING!! and even here the lines at gas stations are so incredibly long.

now i am at my parents' friend's house, and i will visit matt & andy sometime, and get together with connie, who is here from kingwood. maybe this evacuation business won't be so bad after all. college station, home to so many great memories!!

gig 'em aggies!!
