Got bored in my last computer class because I had pretty much nothing to do so I wrote out a rant or something like it on some anime/manga I enjoy and don’t enjoy, so on and so forth. MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
“Hellsing”-
The manga, the series, and the OVA are all wonderful. Personally I like he anime when it’s dubbed just because Crispin Freeman captures Alucard’s squeegasmickly well. It takes place in Britain/Europe, not Japan and the characters are defiantly not Japanese, hence why the dub is better because it captures the story better. And you can concentrate more on the art and the characters and their actions than if you were reading subtitles. Kohta Hirano’s artwork for the manga is very detailed and beautifully and graphically done (defiantly not for the faint of heart). The in-between humor also is good and doesn’t go overboard. The story itself is splendid, new and leaves you hanging after every volume. I have read up to Chapter 80.
_Alucard_: He’s not a male Mary-Sue (the perfect character). He’s Dracula, of course he’s gonna be able to come back to life after a stake through the heart/decapitation/etc! Dracula ALWAYS comes back. No one can kill Dracula, even in Bram Stoker’s story; the ending leaves you saying ‘huh?’ Alucard is a complicated character, which is good because one can’t take such a well-known character and make him simple. Anyway, he’s the best character to ever come out of anime. Back to the male Mary-Sue-despite being good-looking, indestructible, and so badass, he’s not a male Mary-Sue. If that were true you’d have to mark almost every main character in anime as one and then we’d be in a world of Mary-Sues. He’s my favorite character in anime/manga and my fave pairings are Alucard/Seras and Alucard/Young Walter. But Alucard pretty much “gets around” with everyone XD.
_Seras Victoria_: Personally I see her and Alucard as both a pairing and a father-daughter relationship (but not at the same time!). But obviously in volume 7 Seras goes for Pip Bernadette, even though he’s on the brink of death when she accepts a kiss from him. Any way, after Seras drinks blood of her own free will; Alucard’s hold over her is lost. He’s still her sire, yes, but nothing more. She’s an awesome character all around and her denial of blood till as Pip dies is a good plus for her character. I probably wouldn’t like her as much if she’d completely accepted being a vampire soon after Alucard turned her.
_Integra_: She and Alucard are almost a canon (real) pairing. The master/servant relationship if you will. Its evident many times that Alucard does feel an attachment to her and if you’ve read the manga as much as I have, it’s easy to see that. I’m not opposed to them as a pairing and I’ve grown to like Integra just because she’s such a powerful woman and has gone through a lot and ahs to do a lot with a large number of pressure on her for both being the head of the Hellsing family and being a woman too in that position. She doesn’t show that much emotion because she doesn’t want her enemies to gang up on her, and she has to keep a 500+-year old vampire in line, and stay a virgin. Tough job.
_Walter_: The kick-ass butler whom uses dental floss to kill enemies. Need I say more?
_Pip Bernadette_: He’s French, has a braid as long as the Great Wall of China, an eye patch, a spiffy hat, and he’s head over heels for Seras. And he dies in book 7. He’ll be an interesting one to see animated.
_Anderson_: Mr. Priest Whom Kills People With Pie Servers. He and Alucard are often paired together and Al, despite being a fraction of an inch shorter than Anderson, is usually the Seme. I doubt even Anderson could make Al submit, so ya. Anderson himself is awesome in his own little Scottish-accented way but I’d pick Al over him any day.
_Millennium’s People_: They’re a twisted bunch but I like a few of them. Rip Van Winkle is a favorite along with Schrodinger and Captain Hans doesn’t say much but he’s cool. Zorin creeps me out, though I want her scythe. Major is a major fatty but he looks huggable or pokeable, whichever seems better to do at the time. Dok’s glasses are spiffy, so ya. For those of you who think Schrodinger is a werewolf you’re wrong. At Anime Expo 2005 Hirano himself said Schrodinger was a cat-boy created by Dok.
That about wraps it up for “Hellsing”
Comments about this are much wanted!
