The doors slid shut after a very emotional Uhura stomped through them, angry and sad. He was slightly puzzled at the intensity of her reaction. They were not formally a couple and he had no intentions of bonding now or with her, their union had been ill advised. He knew that his rejection would cause her pain and he wished that he had not given in and taken the comfort from her and her body that she had offered in the aftermath of Nero. If he hadn’t, all this would have been avoided. Uhura would not be hurt and he would not be sitting here trying to mediate and failing. He apologized to the spirit of his mother as he blamed his human side for his inability to be a paragon of Vulcan control.
#027. Scars
In sick-bay, back on board the ship, Kirk got a better look at the lashes on Spock’s back. They were deeper and uglier than the ones that had been inflicted on him. Dried green blood encrusting the lacerations, movement had to be painful, but Spock had performed admirably in revealing the power grab by Gill’s second in command. He kept glancing over as Chapel saw to Spock’s injuries, cleaning them carefully and then applying the dermal regenerator. Even with the regenerator there would still be faint traces of scars there, thin lines of pale green that Spock would now carry with him. Kirk wondered how many more scars either of them could collect. How many more would Spock or any of his crew receive because of his decisions?
