"Jim and Spock from McCoy's pov" stories are always so much fun, by virtue of the fact that, in most of them, one way or another, it freaks McCoy out. Either that, or McCoy's reaction is "*smirk* Spock won't let you get away with half of your usual shit. Ha." or something along these lines. That's why I love them.

This one is of the "freaking out/don't need to hear details" type, but not in the comical way. I quite liked the McCoy voice here.

Best parts?

And that soft, flirty smile, which Bones is half-convinced created Jim's playboy image itself.

:) I agree with McCoy here.

Thing is, Jim is fucked up. There are times Bones is absolutely sure he's clinically insane. -- Now that throws an entirely different light onto the matters. Intriguing idea. It's one thing to call someone crazy, another thing entirely to say "clinically insane" as if he means it. The former is fun, the latter brings up many intriguing questions.

No matter how screwed Bones (and the rest of the crew for that matter) thinks they are, no matter how many people die, no matter where they're trapped, unable to beam back to the Enterprise, if the captain is flirting with Spock Bones knows it's going to be okay. And it's a weird way of gauging things, sure, but it works.

Never really thought of it this way, actually. But it's something I'm going to pay attention to next time I watch an episode. And even if it turns out this is your fanon interpretation, I still love the idea of the crew gauging things this way. Makes a very good case for supportive crew being all one big family but ultimately just as insane as Jim and Spock. *g*

if there's one thing you just can't accuse Bones of, it's not giving a shit.

True, that.

This is partially why he and the hobgoblin argue so much (though to be fair, Bones has always had the older brother thing with Jim, and the older brother just isn't allowed to get along with the boyfriend).

Which is why McCoy and Spock's arguing is so much fun. *g* And since I love (quasi-)in-law arguing much more than couple-bickering, it's also my reason why I prefer Kirk/Spock stories to McCoy/Spock ones.

Jim's grin gets even wider, if that's possible. "Pon farr, Bones. Pon-fucking-farr."
Bones doesn't know exactly what Jim is talking about, but considering the self-satisfied smirk on Jim's face and the way he's leaning back in his chair like he's king of the universe, Bones doesn't really want to know.

This right here? Is a very good punchline. Had me laughing out loud. Only Jim. *shakes head* And I don't blame Bones for not wanting to know. :)

In short: Loved this story.
