College Horror!

I'm sure this has happened to every other college student before, but it's the first time it has happened to me.

I had a rewrite of that history research paper due yesterday, on Thursday. I finished it up on Wednesday afternoon. Ten pages and it was perfect. I was proud of that paper. I'd managed to fix everything my professor wanted me to fix.

I saved it to my student server hard drive and emailed a copy to my email. I didn't print it out at the time, but only because I didn't have enough money to do so.

I got to school early yesterday morning so I could print my paper out before my classes started. (I have 3 classes on Thursday and only 10 minutes between each.)

You know where this is going, right?

My paper was gone. For some insane reason I managed to not save the paper to my server hard drive. I was almost positive that I had made sure I had saved it to the H: drive, but clearly I didn't because the paper was gone. I even waited for the computer I had used on Wednesday to be open to double check and see if I had saved it directly to the computer hard drive. (A librarian informed me that the hard drives get wiped every night, which would be why it wasn't there.)

But no problem...right? I mean, I have an emailed copy. Nope. Email was down...all freaking morning. (It's being switched over right now...lots of bugs.)

This meant I had to type the whole damnable thing over again. Except I took my books out of my backpack and left them in the trunk of my car so I wouldn't have to carry them around. So, I had to pack everything back up and make the 10 minute walk back to my car and 10 minute walk back in the rain. I managed to find another open computer. (The library has 300 computers but it's not unusual for them to all be full at any given time.) I sit down and get restarted on the paper. Only to have the damn thing reboot. Fortunately, I hadn't made that much progress...but way to make me even more stressed out.

(The "helpful" student volunteer told me to go use a different computer. Gee, because I never thought of that.)

I ended up having to miss all my classes today to type that damnable paper up. Classes where they test on what is taught in class and they don't post it elsewhere. Grrr..

But I think what makes me the most mad is that I know that the paper I wrote then was just a shadow of the paper I wrote first and that makes me saaaad.
