“Auntie, have you seen mom? She promised that we will go to the park with Haeeun and her parents today!” Ryeowook, who was talking on the phone, turned her attention to the little girl standing beside her, hands behind her back and smiling cheekily.
“She did? Oh, Minhyunnie…” Ryeowook reached over and patted the little girl’s head and turned back to the person she was talking to. “Say, I have to do something. I’ll call you later, okay?” She put down the phone and kneeled beside Minhyun’s side.
“Honey, Sungmin isn’t around right now. Your mom has a scheduled photoshoot today and tomorrow. She’s getting really popular with advertisements lately, isn’t that great, Minhyun?”
“Mom is? Wow, that’s great! But auntie, I really want to go to the park with Haeeun today.” Minhyun pouted and looked at Ryeowook with her big doe eyes which she inherited from her mother. It was the same puppy dog eyes that her mother would use whenever she wanted something and well, Ryeowook was vulnerable against it. She smiled and grabbed the little girl’s hand.
“So you want auntie Ryeowook to bring you there, then?”
“Yep!” Minhyun eagerly responds, along with nodding her head. Ryeowook could tell this girl even with her eyes closed, just like her mother. She told the young girl to get ready, “Make sure you make it in time before the big hand strikes to one!” She watched as Minhyun hurriedly ran up the stairs, keen on making it ‘on time’.
On the other hand, Ryeowook, who was already dressed in casual attire, grabbed her cellphone and punched in some keys, typing a text message to someone. ‘Let’s meet at the park, I’m bringing my niece there.’
The moment she pressed the send button, the sound of someone audibly going down the stairs catches Ryeowook’s attention and suddenly, a girl dressed in an adorable sundress emerges. Ryeowook puts her cellphone inside her pocket and goes over to Minhyun. “Are you ready?”

“Minhyunnie!” A little girl, around the age of four breaks free from her parents’ grip and ran towards another girl of the same age and enveloped her into a big hug. The parents of the said girl was smiling at how friendly and outgoing their child was while Ryeowook walked over and greeted the both of them.
“Ryeowook, how have you been? It’s been a while.” The woman said as the two kissed each other on the cheeks as a form of greeting.
“Oh, I’ve been good. Nothing much really but I’m feeling absolutely fine. What about you, Eunhyuk, how’s it going?” Ryeowook replied, eyes scanning around as if looking for something or someone in particular.
“Everything’s doing great. As you can see, Haeeun is as bubbly as ever, she’s actually really good at dancing at such a young age. And well, Hae..” She said, gazes shifting from Ryeowook to the man at the fields, fixing the picnic place. “He’s amazing as ever. I’m so proud of him, Wookie, he got promoted in his job and he’s been more loving than usual these days.” She went closer and whispered to Ryeowook’s ear, “I can’t say I’m not enjoying it because hell, I am so.” The two of them shared their giggles and laughter as they talked about the things that were going on with them lately.
Ryeowook felt a vibration from her pocket and heard the sound of her ringtone, signalling an incoming voice call. She excused herself from both Eunhyuk and Donghae as she brought he phone to her ear and answered the call. Upon hearing the voice of the caller, her face brightens up and the two engage in a conversation.
Moments later, the two children went up to Eunhyuk and asked permission to roam around the park together. “Okay, just don’t go too far, okay? Haeeun, you’re older so don’t separate with Minhyun, okay? Take care!” Eunhyuk said as she waved her hand to the two who were walking to a distance.
Haeeun and Minhyun was running around the park playing hide and seek when suddenly, the latter stumbles and wanders off to a different direction - a place that looked as if it was hidden from the view of the park. She continued walking amidst the narrow trailway when she saw a man sitting on a bench at the free space in the middle, hands hovering over the contours of the wooden bench.
Having been aware of her presence, the man looked up to her and the two locked eyes. Minhyun felt dumbfounded, when she looked at the man she felt as if something in her was urging her to go towards him and question him. Was it because he looked so much alike the man who was supposedly her father, according to her mother’s narrations? The man, on the other hand, was oblivious of what the little girl was thinking, all that was in his mind was that someone had found his (or their) hiding spot and it was an innocent looking little girl.
“Daddy?” The little girl uttered as she slowly walked towards the man who in turn, got confused at what he was called.
Minhyun struggled to climb the bench as she went close to the man. “Daddy.. is that you? I really wanted to meet you for so long already” Tears started cascading down her orbs as she hugged the stranger before her tightly. The man felt as if the strings of his heart were being pulled at the display of emotion before him so he raised his hands and hugged the girl back, even if he didn’t knew the little girl, he felt the need to comfort her. Oddly, it wasn’t just because she was crying.
“Shh, don’t cry.” He said as he patted her back and caressed her soft long hair. The young girl’s hold on him was so tight, as if he was a toy to be sent to charity that she didn’t want to let go of, as if he was special. But he knew he wasn’t because the girl was obviously mistaken.
“Dad..dy… It’s me, Minhyun. Your daughter.” She nuzzled her head lovingly on the crook of his neck, hold still not loosening.
The young man then held the girl and positioned her to sit on the space beside him on the bench. He looked down at the ground, thinking of a way to explain to the girl that she was mistaken and that he wasn’t her father.
“Dear..”
“Yes Daddy?” She replied brightly, legs dangling over the bench as she could not fully reach the bottom yet.
“…I’m not your daddy, you see.” He let out, gently, not wanting to instil shock but despite that, the moment her eyes went downcast at the disappointment, he felt guilt running through him.
“You’re not..?” She asked, clarifying if what she heard was right. The man looked at her and noticed the tears brimming at her eyes so she looked up in attempt to not make them fall. “Well?”
“I’m… not your father.” He replied and suddenly, the girl closes her eyes and lets the tear run down her face. He felt the need to wipe the tears of her face and so he did but the girl backed out and said, “Oh no, you don’t need to pity me. I understand.” She paused and let out a short but sad laugh as she wiped her tears. “I just want to see my daddy, that’s all.”
“You’ve never met your father before?” He inquired, looking straight into her face. The more he looked into her face, the more he realizes how the little girl in front of him had the eyes of someone he could remember so well but he couldn’t point out who.
“Nope, my mom said he didn’t know of me.” She sighed and looked up to him and offered him a small smile. “And, you look so much like how my mom would describe him to me when I ask her to. She even showed me a picture of when they were young.”
“Is that so?” He said, crossing his arms in front of his chest, getting interested in the girl’s story.
“Yeah, you look two looked so alike. I just thought that I finally found him. Guess I was wrong.”
“Your father and I look alike eh? Well, isn’t he a lucky guy, having to have a face like mine.” He joked, in attempt to lift up the mood of the young child. However, in turn he was hit on the shoulder.
“Hey, that hurt.”
“Well, that’s what you get for being a meanie!” She said as she stuck her tongue out towards him. “You know, you really are similar. Mom often tells me that I got most of my attitude from my dad and that he was a really arrogant guy. Just like you, hehe.”
“I’m not arrogant.” He said, rolling his eyes at the suspicion of the young girl. He looked back at her and noticed the spark in her eyes. “Say, Minhyun, right?” She nodded.
“I hope you find your father soon.” He encouraged. “Do you often hang around the park?”
“Yeah, I hope so to. And yes, I live around the area!”
“..Looks like we’ll be seeing each other more in the future then. You know, if I really remind you of your father I wouldn’t mind you calling me ‘daddy’ secretly until you’ve met your real father.”
“Oh? But mom said to not trust strangers and even if you do look like my father, I don’t know your name.”
“I’m Cho Kyuhyun. Nice to meet you, Minhyun.” He said as he offered his hand for her to shake his hand back in return.
“Hello Mr. Cho Kyuhyun, I’m Lee Minhyun.” She grabbed his hand and shook it.
“Well, you aren’t talking to a stranger now, aren’t you?”
“True.” She laughed at realization of her mistake and softly hit her head with her knuckles and said, “Stupid Minhyun”.
For a moment, Kyuhyun was taken aback by what the little girl did for the action resembled a habit that someone he knew from the past usually do. Before he was able to think more on the subject, a voice sounded and a little girl emerged.
“Ah, Minhyun! There you are, we’ve been looking for you. Hurry up, lunch is ready!”
“Coming!” She turned her attention to Kyuhyun and bowed, “I have to go now, see you next time um.. daddy!” She said as she ran towards the other direction.
When the little girl was out of sight, Kyuhyun regains recollection of where he remembered that habit was from. He sighed and traced his hands over at the carving on the wooden bench which read ‘K <3 S’ He looked up the sky and wondered, Where are you right now, Sungmin?
//
They ate lunch and had a fun time chatting with one another and the day ended quickly. Ryeowook noticed how happy the little girl beside her was. “Why are you so happy, Minhyun?” She tried asking, looking to see if the girl would tell her something.
“No can do auntie, I promised the handsome mister that I wouldn’t be telling anyone anything.”
“Handsome mister?” Ryeowook raised his brow in confusion.
“Oh nothing!” Minhyun mused as she continued jumpily walking along the sidewalk, recalling the events of the day. “I can’t wait to tell this to mom!”
“Aren’t you chipper, it isn’t long until we reach home. Sungmin’s probably home by then.”
///
Those were the events the previous day. No one but Minhyun knew about her secret rendezvous with the man, only herself. She had told her mom about it but she didn’t believe her. Of course, she was only half-joking seeing as the man himself claimed that he was no father of any person yet. She, being the tricky kid that she was, only wanted to see what her mother’s reaction would be. To be honest, she wasn’t expecting the reaction he had witness the previous night - the look of worry and shock was already too much for her to understand that her mother did not want to talk about it yet.
The next day, Minhyun was told by Ryeowook that Sungmin went off early in the morning again because of another photoshoot schedule. Feeling the need to go see her mother, she had requested for the two of them to visit the studio where her mom’s photoshoot was being held. Apparently, it was a photoshoot for the advertisement of the new cellphone brand by some popular company.
Ryeowook was walking along the corridors, hand-in-hand with the four year old, wondering where the photoshoot was being held exactly. She saw a man standing by the vending machine and an idea popped in her head.
“Minhyun, honey?”
“Yes, auntie?” She replied innocently.
“We’re kind of lost. Do you think you could ask that guy over there for directions?” She said as she pointed at the back of the man who had just claimed his drink from the vending machine. Minhyun followed her line of vision and nodded her head. “Okay, wait here.”
Minhyun ran up to catch up on the man and when finally caught his attention and he stopped, she took a pause and looked down, hands on knees, catching her breath. “Excuse me sir, do you know where my mother is having her photoshoot. She’s Lee Su-” She paused as she looked up and saw the face of the person she was talking to.
“Ah! Mr. Cho Kyuhyun! I mean, daddy!” She gasped and turned around to her awaiting companion. “Auntie Ryeowook, look it’s the person I was talking about!”
Kyuhyun turned his attention to who the little girl was looking at and an expression of shock can be seen on both of their faces, something the naïve girl couldn’t comprehend. Both were speechless but Kyuhyun was the first to react.
“Ryeowook, what are you doing here?”
“Oh, daddy, you know auntie Ryeowook?” She said, looking back and forth the two, confusion in her eyes.
“Auntie Ryeowook, you say?”
