Actually after having a couple days to deal with it, the situation isn't so bad after all. This post may bore some of you to death, but I needed to vent.
Basically the story goes like this...I coloured my hair about 2 months ago as close to my roots as possible, but with a little more tinge of red in it then usual. But not too extreme. Since I knew I was getting married, I didn't want to have roots (at the time I was contemplating just letting my natural colour grow back in, but I really hate having roots showing so that idea was quickly tossed). The colour I chose was quite pretty and very subtle, I think the box said auburn brown. Since hair has a tendancy to keep growing, I once again had roots. So I decided that I wanted to look good for my wedding which is now 12 days away, so I decided to re-colour it. I had bought a hair piece to add to my hair (since it only comes to my shoulder's it doesn't allow for much variety when it comes to updo's or anydoo other then a ponytail of some sort), because the hair piece would help to make it look like my hair was done in the salon and would look as though I spent a lot of dough on it. :) It really looked great, and matched the hair colour almost perfectly (when I wore it to work no one knew the difference until I told them, and then they had to touch it to still believe me). So now since it has been six weeks since I last coloured it, I had about a quarter inch worth of roots showing, and it was definitely time for a touch up. So I went out Friday to run some errands and pick up the dye. A few hours later I was home mixing the ingredients together. And since I am one of those fussy organizer types, I had to have everything laid out before I started putting the dye in my hair. So as I was putting my towel and the conditioner at the kitchen sink, I took a closer look at the conditioner bottle and realized that I had bought a different brand of hair colour from the one I had before. Since I had already started mixing the concoction it was too late to turn back, and also since I paid nearly 14.00 CAD for the bottle of dye, I wasn't about to waste it. So I crossed my fingers and prayed that since it said the same name on the box as the other brand, that it would turn out reasonably close....
Not a fricken chance in hell...
35 minutes later I was blow drying my hair to see the results and my hair went from being a light auburn brown colour to being a deep mahogany or burgandy colour, completely rich in red colour everywhere.
I picked up my hair piece to see if there was any remote chance that it would match, but it was like matching a poodle to a frog. :( So I sat down on my floor wondering what the fuck I was going to do next, I hadn't thought of any other hair plan, since I am much of a tomboy I don't know how to do anything. I can't even curl my own hair (I know its sad but, its totally true), my idea of a cool hairdo is to pull it back into some form of a ponytail.
So Kevin comes home from work, and I explain my dilema, I had spent my last 20 bucks trying to get the hairdye, so there was no way I could fix it, when Kevin informed me that he had some money left and would gladly try to help.
So back to the store we go...
Since I don't know a thing about hair, I had no idea what colour to use to get the red out. But I figured that if I just needed it to be more brown, to go with the brown hairdye. So we are both like yeah, yeah that should totally work. The only thing is I was worried that if I coloured it twice in one day my hair would fall out or something. So I waited till the next morning. And the start of my day (since saturday was our stag/ette) was trying to recolour my hair.
I woke up at 7:30 in the morning, which is very unusual for me on the weekend (my normal wake up time is around 10 or 10:30), but I was starving and my stomach couldn't wait any longer to get some breakfast. So I chowed on some cereal and then proceeded to colour my hair again. Again waited the 35 minutes, blowdryed it. Only to have it come out a less vibrant shade of burgandy then it was the day before.
So now I have to figure out what I can do with shoulder length hair that will not only be elegant but be sexy at the same time. If any of you out there have any ideas, I would be really happy to hear them. :)
I hope I didn't bore you too bad. I know I can go on sometimes. So forgive me. :)
