Prayer for Peace

Dec 08, 2010 17:22

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light,
and where there is sadness, joy.
Divine Master, grant that I may
not so much seek to be consoled,
as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive-
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born
to eternal life.

This is my favorite prayer and it has helped me pull through before. It makes me feel as if I'm not alone and I can overcome whatever it is I'm facing. Truth be told, I'm not a religious person. I make mistakes and I suffer the consequences. I lie and I get lied to. Nothing makes me better than anyone else I know. I have been betrayed, I have been hurt, and in return I betray and I hurt the ones I love. There is no excuse for my actions, as there is no excuse for the actions of others. Living in this world I am bound to mess up and lose my way and it seems that's all I've been doing lately. I have no sense of who I am but I think it's about time that I find out.

"You have to make mistakes to find out who you aren't. You take the action, and the insight follows: You don't think your way into becoming yourself."
