This woman was attacked by somebody's pet chimp three years ago. The animal literally tore off her *face*, as well as both of her hands.
She had the first successful full face transplant about one year ago.
As someone who works in health care, I find her surgery and recovery utterly fascinating- (especially because my specialty is speech pathology, and therefore head and neck anatomy/physiology.)
But as just, you know, a regular human being- I find her whole story pretty damn miraculous.
This interview is the first she's given to anyone post-surgery. There are no pictures of her after the attack, but the video is still hard to watch in places.
I think it's also totally worth watching.
