The Met

Today my homework required that I go to the Met (Metropolitan Museum of Art). So, since my three day weekends are dominated by homework, I finally got the perfect excuse to go! I wandered through several exhibitions, including a giant stone hall which held all of the statues that remind me of the greek gods. I'm still not the greatest in art history, heh, but I believe that they were from the famous sculpers from Rome. Absolutely... amazing. You walk in this giant hall with stylized stone pillars soaring up to the three story roof, sunlight filtering in through the glass pained ceiling, illuminating the best of the best. The biggest sculpture stands triumphantly in the center, a heroic male figure, his sword reaching the second story, and his other hand holding the head of his enemy. INCREDIBLY detailed. Wow. On the walls hang 10-20 ft tapestries with the goddesses looking up to heaven or dancing with cupids in the background. It is all very overwhelming. And then you look at your own simple sketches and... heh, well, realize that you are truely a peasant among gods.
I finally found my way out of that hall and found the portraits I was supposed to critique. (On the second floor). On the way to actually do my homework (no more destractions, I swore) I took a quick break to study one of Van Gogh's paintings. It was a starry night look-a-like. "Starry Night over the Rhone." Here's a link!!! http://www.bellatrixobservatory.org/cvaaI/37/fig3.jpg But it looks so much more colorfull in real life. And you can see the brush strokes!!! Ah! I'll have to go back and see if they also have Stary Night. (I get in free, student privaledges!!!)
Anyway, I finally got to the seven portraits by Ambroise Vollard and wrote down notes for writing my critique paper.
Which, I should be doing now... heh. (I have a lot of homework and dorm work to do)

Anyway, I'm working on those pictures of NY, and I have, when I get a chance, been reading your journals! I'll try and get more time so that I can acctually reply, but it sounds like you're all having a great time!!! Sweet.
Uh, the pictures... I might just have to give you all a link to my dA account because I don't have time to post and then link from a different site. Ughhh.
But I do have some really cool pictures!!! (None of the museum, no camera's allowed). But I got a good one of the cave in my dorm. (my bed is raised, so I have my desk underneath it in my "cave." ^^ )
...
*is dragged away by homework*
See ya!
