Ah, September, the month of interruptions. Oh well, I'll get to 365 eventually. :)
This past weekend was Rainfurrest 2010, the local (and growing damn fast!) furry convention. I had originally planned on only going on Saturday and Sunday, due to ludicrously limited personal days off, but finally said "Hell with it" and took Friday off. Tim and
witchofnovember had gone down to Portland for Dad's birthday so
nicodemusrat,
3catsjackson, and I stayed at the hotel. (It's not an impossible drive back home but it's a bit more than I'd really want to do each day.) We did a lot of hanging out, went to some panels, ate at 13 Coins twice, and even went to the dance Saturday night. Trey and I also entered into the writing challenge, which was to write a short story that fits with the theme of next year's convention. We were also given two lines of dialogue and pulled a species out of a hat. (The dialogue and the species were optional, but I wedged 'em in. :) The opening session was Friday night, and the stories were due Sunday at 2:30. I finished at 2:20, spent a frantic 20 minutes (taking advantage of other people's printer troubles) cutting it down to somewhere vaguely near the word limit, and turned it in. I wasn't entirely happy with the ending; it felt rushed to me (golly, I wonder why?!? :D ) but I had actually finished it, so I was pleased with myself. (I have, in case it wasn't already obvious, some issues with follow-though.)
So you can imagine my shock when they called my name at closing ceremonies. :) It'll be published in the con book next year and I got a free membership. I'm still very surprised but pleased with myself as well.
And now, a photo... this is
windmist's fox fursuit, Spinner. I took this at the Saturday night dance.
(BTW, Windmist, there's a higher res version posted
over here, if you want to grab a copy. Or I can email you an original.)
