[Weekend Preview] Hit These Shows!

Sep 04, 2008 09:00

Well it's been a bad couple of weeks for horn players. My friends, the brothers John (sax) & Scott (trumpet) (and their brother Wayne plus wife & family) lost their house and all their possessions to a fire a couple of weeks ago. Some firemen went down, too, although I don't think anybody lost their lives (except possibly Scott's dog, arrrgh).

Then last Saturday, my other buddy John got his tenor stolen out of the back of his car while loading up for a gig at his home. There really is no justice in this world; they skipped right over his soprano sax. Ahem.

The good part of this story is that John+Scott+Wayne+family are all okay (albeit homeless), John & Scott had their horns with them, and there are a couple of benefits for their family happening, which I'll post more about later. In the meantime, one of the things you can do to support them is check out the Dwight Ritcher & Nicole Nelson residency happening at Atwood's Tavern in Cambridge every Tuesday in September. John & Scott will be playing with them, and with a bunch of other bands as usual. The more people support their live music, the more money these guys will have to do things like buy underwear and socks. All of these folks no longer have computers so they haven't updated their sites in awhile, but here's some music if you're wondering what you'll get:

Meanwhile my other buddy John has also gotten his sax back after posting a $500 reward and getting to all the places a local thief might have taken his horn before the thief got there. So, he's out a few bills but he's got a pretty unique Selmer Mark VI back, whew. You'll be able to see this horn at a couple of Booty Vortex shows in the near future and also with a newly formed band that's got a residency on Thursday nights at the Brighton Barf Garden just off Brighton Center. Check them out, too:

Oh, and one last thing... we'd totally appreciate it if you could make it down on Friday night, September 5 to see Booty Vortex at the Hard Rock Cafe. It's our first time there, and possibly our last if we can't fill the room. Unfortunately, we got a lot of press for our Johnny D's gig, where we usually already have a crowd, and the media machine missed advertising where we really need the help. So if you can make it down, we promise not only a typical Booty Vortex good time, but also some serious gratitude for helping us get a repeat show at a great venue.
