[Weekend Preview] Fascinating...
Last week we played a club in New Hampshire, and some guys showed up near the end of the night in costume, no doubt after getting in some early Halloween celebration. Four of them appeared in Classic Star Trek uniforms, two in blue, and two in red. (Pretty well done, too.) They were all a bit inebriated, but somehow... the guys in blue seemed smarter to me. The red shirts would actually get on the dance floor, though, and one of them could do the robot!!
Near the end of the night I saw them outside, and said, "Guys, those costumes are pretty cool." A red shirt replied, "These aren't costumes; we just beamed down." I laughed and asked, "Then aren't you worried that you guys in the red shirts are gonna die before the mission is over?" One of the blue shirts practically shrieked at me, "How did you KNOW that?!?" I said, "Duh!" but I thought, Dude, I've been a dork since you were in diapers.
A bit later, while we were still sort of low level Trek geeking, one of the red shirts was not too subtly coming on to me (see above, re: inebriated), and I finally had to say to him, "Honey, I don't know who you think you are, but you got to be wearing a gold shirt to get with ME."
This weekend, come on out, dress up, and show me some nerd!
