Animals are Wonderful

I finally am getting my butt in gear on my photopost from my excursion with Andrew to the zoo several months back. Some of the best pictures I've ever taken are in this set, and I just loved getting to see all those animals nice and close.

Please enjoy!

I don't care what anybody says -- elephants are beautiful. They're peaceful, intelligent, artistic, and this one is very clearly smiling. Elephants rock.

The white gibbons were thoughtful and quiet. Unlike their showoff cousins...

These guys were loving the crowd. They swung around and stared directly at all the people, and while they were swinging, they were hollering, this amazing sound I'd never heard anything like. It was more like three or four sounds in one, like a wail and a hum and a drum and that sound that water makes when it drops into a copper pot.

Buddha, chilling in the zoo garden.

This guy was hiding. When The Boyfriend and I walked up, I called out, "Hello! May we see you please?"

And he came right out.

These guys all live together so peacefully. They lounge, they munch, they socialize, and when everyone's gone they rehearse King Lear.

It was a very hot day for mister sleepy rhino.

Giraffes have the prettiest skin.

Ha! Proof that porcupines CAN snuggle! Score one for love!

The meerkats looked as soft as newborn kittens, and they scrapped like puppies. It was hilarious watching them tussle, rolling around like little furry balls of feet and tails.

Did I mention it was a hot day? The chimpanzees are melting!

In the petting zoo, the goats were rubbing up against our legs like cats. This guy was just sitting there, smacking his lips over and over.

A bucket of goat and a pound of provolone, please.

Mama tiger had recently had kittens, which weren't yet a year old when these were taken, but they were still an impressive size. They kept wrestling each other and trying to climb on top of this enormous medicine ball, which bore the scars of their excessive love.

While we were watching, one of the men who worked with the tigers walked by on our side of the fence, and the young tigers all gathered to watch him, some of them even stretching up high on the fence directly opposite him. They were taller than he was. I said to him, "Aw, they want you to come in!" He laughed and said, "Oh, they would just love that..."

Mom is sitting under the log, trying to get some peace from her boys.

When you think about it, they're kinda cuddly, no?
