It’s late on a rainy Friday afternoon, but even a day like this feels fine in this post-Obama America. I have a lot of work to do but I’ll get a few Bullets® out for you.
*I’m glad the election wasn’t close. Now I don’t have to listen to conservatives go on for the next four years about how Obama wouldn’t have won if not for ACORN or whatever else. Your ideology was repudiated, deal with it.
*After years of receiving bullshit conservative chain e-mails from my uncle, I received one Monday night with this stupid limerick about how Obama is a Socialist who will steal all your money. At the top of the forward, my uncle wrote “I did my part. I voted for McCain.” I couldn’t resist any longer. I responded, “And I voted for Obama, because I’m a Socialist who obviously hates his country.” I haven’t received anymore chain e-mails.
*Obligatory Cryptic Omphaloskeptic Comment: I like…dare say, need, a challenge, and you can say this is a really big one.
*The Steelers gave the Redskins a royal thumping the other night. So the record on the Ex-Girlfriends’ Favorite Teams Tour is 2-1. I’ll take that. I think they can finish 3-1 fairly easily.
*B told me that he’s enlisting for the Air National Guard. I haven’t been crazy in the past about the idea of him joining the military, for the obvious reasons. But as he pointed out, this is the one of the least likely paths to go to Iraq or Afghanistan (it kept Bush out of Vietnam). He’s 20 and frankly he needs the direction and he needs to get out into the world some, so I think it will be good for him.
*I heard the new Jack White and Alicia Keys song the other day. It’s always a pleasure to hear a new White composition for the first time.
*N has a powder-puff football game tonight. I’m not sure what to expect. This is the girl that used to keep a body-count when she played soccer. I think she’s mellowed a bit since then. I think.
*K made the JV basketball team, which isn’t as impressive as it seems because they don’t have a freshmen team and no girls were cut. The coach has told them that the freshman players won’t see a lot of time on the court.
*If you’re not watching 30 Rock, why not?
*Saw Religulous the other day. Much like W., it preaches to the converted and does so in a heavy handed way. I happen to be in the group that’s already convinced for both movies, but I can’t help to feel some sympathy when someone is being set up to look like a fool.
*Vodkathon V is tomorrow. I’m looking forward to the typical cavorting and checking out a few new places. I’ll be sure to take embarrassing photographic evidence.
*President-elect Barack Obama. I love the sound of it.
