...he hadn't been intending on receiving Mallory 1 ea that morning.
He sat on the floor of his office, bad leg extended, the other used to prop the baby up, rocking him to and fro. He'd cried the first oh, three seconds, but discovering it was good old Uncle Sei had brought him to a point of quiet consideration. He made for Sei's white streak in his hair. "Ah, you know - ow!" Sei laughed, shaking his head. "Pulling my hair's not going to make me your buddy."
Mallory pulled again for good measure.
Was Sienna not coming? It'd be like her. She never listened, you know? Even in the Cathedral, it was always inside her own head what she needed to do, what she had to do to make it better... in her own mind. There was never the idea of another perspective, and more than anything else, she managed to ignore the possibility that she might be, well.
Wrong... or isolationist... or withdrawing!
Ha.
He tapped Mallory on the nose. "You should grow up gay." He whispered. "The two happiest, most in love people I've ever known were totally bonin' each other."
Mallory stared, vacantly.
"Ah, ah, don't give me that. My dad was in love too, he just pussied out."
Her attention returned to Mallory. "Is he giving you a bad influence?" she cooed, finger brushing against the side of his cheek. So soft! "You aren't cursing in front of him, are you?"
"All the damn time." He grinned over his head. "I at least don't smoke around the kid." He rubbed his hair, setting his cheek to his temple. "Here, hold him, I've gotta get up."
"Sei!" Sienna scooped up the child and frowned at his namesake. "You're going to make him turn into you. Don't make another trouble maker. Right, Mallory? He's so bad..."
"Cat and mouse again? Okay." He shrugged, dropping his hands to his sides. "I just wanted to talk to you. That was all. Nothing major, nothing serious. Just wanted to see you."
She adjusted her arms, and maybe Mallory was some kind of anchor for her to hold on to then. "We can't. After all this time I've--" avoided and pushed you away? Sienna cringed at the overwhelming guilt.
Ah, such a familiar emotion.
She smiled sadly at the boy, stroked his cheek once before setting him down. "It sounded like you wanted to discuss something serious..."

Another stare.
"Hey! You're turning into your dad, yet."

She found her knuckles knocking against the wood anyway.

He tapped Mallory on the nose with a grin.
"He's my namesake!"

The sight of a child at Sei's leg was certainly unexpected.
Sienna blinked. Well.
Well.
She covered her mouth as it crept up into a smile, blushing slightly. It was really cute, these two, they looked really, really cute...

He took Mallory's hand and extended it to Sienna. "Mallory? This is Sienna, she's my first love!"

Ah, but... Sienna sighed and took the boy's hand. "Hello, Mallory...?" Wait, Mallory? She cocked her head at Sei questioningly.

He pressed his lips to the back of Mallory's head, then mocked a shake.
"See? He's already got a tough grip like his namesake."
Ah, he always felt good when Mallory was around, honestly.

Sienna stepped back, gaze lowering to the floor, her entire demeanor changed. "What did you want to talk about?"
