How you respond to the Tower's change makes all the difference in how uncomfortable the experience will be. Recognize that the disruption occurred because it was needed. So, I tried swapping out computer monitors on my gaming desktop and wound up reorganizing a closet. It needed it.
Admittedly I might have preferred to do this voluntarily, but I should just take things as they are. What actually happened is that the plastic shelving in the closet in my computer room collapsed on me (somewhat literally). In retrospect, winding the right surround speaker cable through the bottom of cheap clip-together storage cubes was not a good idea once I had to redo the sound system. (I swapped a two-monitor system supported by a desk clamp for one huge monitor using a normal stand, since the clamp wouldn't work with this size of monitor and my desk geometry. But that was incompatible with the center speaker, so I had to switch to a (good) 2.1 sound system.) The clips holding the storage cubes together were never super secure, and a couple of them were missing, and trying to wiggle a cable out from under it was too much.
So it collapsed on my head. Neither I nor anything expensive was hurt. I just wound up spending yesterday evening sorting through all the crap that had accumulated on those shelves, and the closet is in much better shape for it. The huge supply of specialized notebooks I probably won't use has been moved to a shelf in the garage, so if I ever get the urge to try to use a Livescribe 3 pen again, I have all the supplies I could ever need, but they aren't taking up high-value closet space (just lower-value garage space) for now. More importantly, two garbage bags of actual clutter are gone.
The plastic shelves have been replaced with metal ones. So this issue shouldn't recur, and the closet is better off for it.
