Home sweet Home

I have been back home in Australia for just over three weeks now and am down to the business of life. However, around two weeks after I arrived I began to feel a bit unsettled. I could not figure out what was bothering me but the feeling even permeated my sleep.

Sean and I are close in many ways but we especially have an emotional and spiritual connection. Immediately he realized that I needed my 'home' in a spiritual way. After some discussion we drove by the local Orthodox Synagogue, got the phone number of the president and I made the phone call and left a message on our way home. Within an hour my call was returned and we were welcomed warmly to attend shul that Friday evening.
Also, and very importantly, I may finally petition for one of the minion to recite a proper kaddish for my son, Asher and also remember him with the yearly yahrzeit observance. This act alone has been a healing for me.

The first brick of our local Synagogue was laid in 1905 by Rabbi SS Cohen and the building is a National Trust or Historical Landmark as they are called in the states. Sean and I both attended shul and I immediately felt 'home.' Sean actually speaks more Yiddish than I do which cracked me up. {We spoke Hebrew, Chaldean, Arabic and English in the home while being raised by my grandmother during my formative years} He also knew another solicitor that attends as well.

Straight from Sean's gentle heart, the third strand was added fully to our lives for me.

How could I love anyone more that this? Truly we have become 'one' flesh.

Below is a photo of the lovely building:

Yet another act of love and compassion from Sean came in the form of gifts from Israel that made me laugh with delight when I arrived. Both of them are so 'me' and so 'us.' I cannot help but smile when I see how Sean linked my southern US roots with my ancestral ones.

Sean also ordered a mezuzah for the door and the Rabbi will be over soon to check the placement of this and others in the home and bless the scrolls inside. Our Cantor will get a kick out of this one {pictured below}in particular which will go at the front door, since he is in the local theatre.

I feel much more settled here now. Chelle is doing well in SC and getting ready for university. I could not be more proud of her. Sean and I are working toward our future and we are happy.

Life is good.

Most of all, the 'third strand' that King Solomon so wisely spoke of in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 is in place.
