For the most part I like my job. Maybe now, especially now, because it's 4:30 pm. And the comedy of this place is enough to keep me going for a while. Here are a few samples of my week.
-we are soon getting desks that you can use standing up OR sitting down. Lindsey got the test desk because she's pregnant. There's a little remote control and it makes this car-backing-up type sound when it raises and lowers. I'm really jealous because that desk makes me star-struck.
-We have a stage set up in the other room and nobody is sure why. Sometimes the owner of our company comes in and stares at it and mumbles comments that nobody understands. He also calls that room the "game room" even though there's no games, just some old desks piled up and boxes of crap and a stage.
-On Tuesday we had lunch with some possible new-hires. We like to invite a bunch of people out- all of them applying for the same job when there's only one opening- and make it a little uncomfortable and see how they react to each other. I asked one girl, Elaine, what she liked about our company and she said 'you boss has cool red hair.' Yup- there goes one resume in the trash can.
-Our IT guy, Dirk, is Dutch and recently bought a scooter. He has a really think accent and European manners. Yesterday someone here said to him 'I know you're from a foreign land, but can you understand my words?' and the guy talking made big, expressive gestures with his hands. I feel like saying that to Dirk all the time, but then he might not let me borrow his scooter.
