i was at con practicing bach and got laura to listen to me. it was awesome, she's my bach expert and a wonderful teacher, so i got a lot out of it. ben listened too, but i tensed up, which made my first bourree bad.

bach is extraordinary...the notes are not too difficult, but there's oh so much more than the notes. there are layers and layers there and you just keep playing and playing and discovering new depth to what you are playing. you work so hard to get the style right, the details right, but in the end it's all worth it, when you can pick up your instrument and make bach sound like absolutely the easiest and most natural thing in the world.
you never stop learning. whenever you think you've got it down, you discover more. and that's how it is with music, that's what makes music so truly amazing. that everytime you hear it, every time you make it, every time you feel it, you learn something more about it, something more about yourself. and even if it isn't the same every time, even if it isn't perfect every time, there's that one time that you play it at exactly the right moment in time in exactly the right place with exactly the right thoughts floating through your head and exactly the right people drinking it in, and that's why we do it. for every moment like that.
