after a while

It's pretty crazy how badly I'm ready to head on back to school and do homework! Like, I'm seriously excited to start going to classes and get homework!! (whoa...)

Oh, California was pretty amazing. Minus all that desert. It was gorgeous! I'm glad to be finally able to say I've been there. :) I'm kinda hating being back in PA now, hehe. Who wouldn't?

VBS starts tomorrow... I'm in charge of the games. gah. Hopefully fun times there... :D

I wanted to post this a while back... in myspace or xanga... but I never really got to it. It's a gorgeous poem I got from Jeremy, which he got from his grandmom. I figured it was appropriate for my situation about 5 or 6 months ago, but I suppose it could still pertain to me.. and everyone else, really.

So enjoy. It really is beautiful... and helps things settle deep inside. :)

"After a While"

After a while,
You learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and changing a soul.
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
And company doesn't mean security
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
And presents aren't promises
And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open
With the grace of a woman
With the strength of a man
Not the grief of a child
And learn to build all your roads today
Because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight
And after a while,
You learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much...
So you plant your own garden
And decorate your own soul instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers
And you learn that you really can endure...
That you really are strong
And you really do have worth
And you learn and learn
With every goodbye,
You learn.
