Procrastinating

Feb 01, 2010 00:30

I haven't been able to do much this week because 3 days of trade show plus travel plus setting up really wears me out. But it looks like its already bearing fruit, so thats good.

Anyway, I've been slowly reading through some stuff rather than attempting the more complicated bits of work I should be doing but can't manage.

M.E related stuff.
There's been a whole lot of articles recently  related to M.E. There was a woman with very severe M.E who decided she wanted to die; her mum eventually helped her, and then was prosecuted for murder, and was happily  found not guilty . The times have covered it pretty extensively:

Its worth reading the comments for the links and also, in my case, for the reassuring news that at least I haven't developed any M.E-related crackpot conspiracy theories, because I do occasionally worry that its driving me slowly insane. Also for this comment:
"back into the NHS for cognitive behavioural therapy - which was of value. But it was a bit like losing a leg in an accident, being offered treatment, but finding that rather than the false leg you were hoping for - the treatment on offer turns out to be hopping lessons."
Yes! Thank you!

Which brings me onto  therapies-that-have-been-declared-amazing and  some recent articles on why they might not be.

For those of you reading who don't know about  talking therapies, there are different flavours (technically models).  We like to align ourselves with the models and then have bun fights :)  For years CBT  has been winning, which has been sad for me as I tend towards the psychodynamic for various reasons.  This research means bigger buns for us. Possibly with currents on top.

And in other news, anti-depressants are possibly not the magic solution to human misery. Shock news to anyone who has ever had to deal with it.

On the other hand if you mostly like looking at the shiny picture here, i have lots of them to put up shortly, and in the meantime, heres one to make it all  a bit more fashion:
