Some Personal Poetry

Soooo, right before senior year ended, my English teacher had us go outside one class period and write a "Spontaneous Overflow" of any feelings or thoughts we might have about the future/ nature/ what have you. Well, we all wrote whatever we felt, and then on the last day in class, she handed us a few sheets of paper stapled together as we walked out the door. It was a compilation of ALL of our poems. We didn't know she was going to put them all together, much less actually put who wrote the poem. I found the booklet today, as I was cleaning my room up before I left for college, so I figured I'd share, since all my classmates got to see what I wrote... if they even bothered to look. I read them all. It took me until today to read them all; I had no interest before, but I sat down and read them all.

Here goes.

"New Thrills"

As I view the bleachers that have housed many cheering fans,
I think about where I will be housed in the coming months.
These hallways and these classrooms are all I have known for four years.
All of the companions I have made will not continue with me to wherever I will go.

The birds squawk an unpleasant tune, and it makes me think that I am unhappy to leave my comfort zone.
Even these students an I surrounded by that I do not know are something I will miss;
Being able to rely on having at least one in another course.
But then I think of all the opportunities to come,
All the people I can make first impressions on.

The next four years, I will cheer on a new team, a team that may actually bring home a trophy.
And after all the excitement of new knowledge,
I can go out and begin one more time.

I'll have to get my own place, cook for myself, and pay my own bills.
However, all that aside, I look forward with high hopes to new thrills.

The formatting in LJ isn't as ideal as I wanted it to be presented in, but that's okay. So, yeah, there it is... I forgot why I updated with this...
