the JDRF walk!

May 03, 2010 19:34

hey all! i'm posting this to tell you about something i'm doing on may 22nd, 2010.

here's a statistic that may shock you: 23.6 million people in the United States suffer from diabetes.

that is 7.8% of the population.

how many people do you know who have diabetes? one? two? three, or more?

do you yourself have diabetes?

or perhaps you don't know anyone personally who has diabetes. but that doesn't mean you don't sympathize with those who do. that doesn't mean you don't want to make a difference.

on may 22nd, i'll be walking the JDRF walk: the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation walk. JDRF is researching for a cure for type 1 diabetes. and like any research organization, they need funding.

a group from my school, the Delta Program, will be walking together: the Delta Dreamers.

the walk is only 2 miles, but my friend, clara, and i will be doing several laps around. we talk so much, it wouldn't surprise if we find ourselves having walked 10 miles without realizing it!

our goal, as a group, is to raise over $1000! we're trying to get as much support as possible from family, friends, and community members. and when i thought of who might like to pledge, the first people i thought of were you guys, my lj buds!

if you'd like to donate, you can donate online -- here is my pledge page. i urge you to donate, just $10. if i can raise $10 from 15 people, i can't tell you enough how much i, my school, and everyone who has diabetes around the world, would appreciate it.

please don't hesitate to ask questions or make comments in this entry.

thank you so much. ♥ have a fantastic day!
