i may or may not have written you an essay. D:

So, Archie pretty much does everything he can to keep the fact that he can, you know, fly, from getting out to the public. When he's on Idol, on stage, he always makes sure to wear baggy shirts, and jackets, so that there's not a chance of people catching sight of the outline of his wings-he even ties extra-long shoelaces around his torso so his wings will stay nicely tucked between his shoulder blades. He makes sure that he doesn't get caught umbrella-less in any torrential downpours, and that he stays safely away from the poolside. All of his wing essentials are packed deep inside his suitcase, in hidden pockets, and- He has everything figured out. There's no chance of-
But then there is a chance, and that chance's name is David Cook. David Cook, who bypasses all personal boundaries and bubbles, and by the time there's only six of them left on Idol, Cook is slinging his arm around Archie's neck, cupping his palm around the nape of Archie's neck, and there's this one time when they're lounging in the main room, Archie doing some Pre-Calc gibberish that he'll never use in his life, and Cook throws himself down next to Archie, and he sort of-he snugs his arm around Archie's back, at the base of his spine, and slowly works his way up, tucking his fingernails into the grooves and climbing his spine like a ladder, the pads of his fingers warm over his thin t-shirt, and it actually feels like, ridiculously fantastic, but then his fingers are right there, at Archie's shoulder blades, and, just-no-
"Cook," Archie says, arching away from Cook's hand and stumbling to his feet.
"Aw, Arch," Cook says. He's staring up at him from the couch, mock-pouting. "I know you're ticklish, but I wasn't gonna."
Archie takes a second to breathe, attempts to control his pulse, which has spiked and is humming in his ears. "I know," he says, after a moment, and he swallows. "It's okay, just-wasn't expecting it, is all."
"Okay," Cook says, and there's a wary note in his voice now. "You sure you're okay? You seem tense." He grins, then, squinty-eyed, his face stretching with it, and Archie sort of just-stares. "I'm superb at back massages, you know."
Archie chokes out a half-laugh. "That's probably the last thing I need right now," he says, and he sees Cook furrow his brow at him before he bends over to pick his pencil that's at his feet. He must've dropped it in the whole tussle with Cook, which-how exactly is he going to get out of this situation, geez-
part two/twokissesblowJanuary 18 2010, 06:11:31 UTC
The room spins as Cook lurches forward, grabs at his arm, and tugs him down onto the couch, so Cook's facing him and he's facing away from Cook, and before he can stand up and make some lame excuse so he can just leave, he feels the heat of Cook's palm on his right shoulder blade, just before it touches him, and Cook's thumb is rubbing a slow arc, slowly making its way to the hollow between his shoulders, where his t-shirt is pulled tight over his- And it takes a moment for Archie's body to catch up with his mind, but when it does, he's breathless.
"Holy shit," Cook murmurs, and Archie is sure he's never felt so vulnerable.
Archie gulps, and when he feels the first soft touch of Cook's thumb over the concealed feathers of his wings, he flinches, hard.
"Shh, it's okay," Cook soothes, but Archie is too tense-now someone knows, someone who isn't him or his family, and it's horrifying.
"I'd heard about this," Cook whispers, both hands pressing lightly to Archie's back now, his thumbs pointing inward and tracing a heart shape around the line of Archie's wings. "The myths-the legends. But I'd thought... I always..."
"I'm the first in nine generations," Archie whispers back.
Cook's hands slowly still, heat soaking into Archie's skin, and he kind of leans back into Cook's touch. It feels so, so nice. "This is incredible, Arch," Cook says. "Such a gift."
Archie hums in agreement.
"Can I..." Cook starts, and he sounds almost-nervous. Cook is never nervous, and that's enough to make Archie open his eyes-which, since when were they closed?- "Can I see you?"
"I, um." Archie watches the way his own hands interlace, wring, grasp. They're sweaty and slick. "I've never-no one's ever-"
"If it's not okay, with you, then that's fine," Cook says, slowly pulling his hands away, and there's this inch of cool nothingness between the two of them, and that's not- Archie leans back, further, so they're touching.
"No," Archie whispers. "I think I'd like that."
"Really?" Cook says, sounding awestruck, his fingers finding their way to the bottom hem of Archie's t-shirt and cautiously tugging it upward.
"Yeah," Archie says. He tilts his head over his shoulder so he can catch Cook's eye. "Yeah. I want you to see me."
