here's the situation:
I moved into my apartment over the summer as a sublet, so my name was never added to the lease. The lease ended in August, and all during August, and well into September, we have done nothing but email and call our landlord to discuss a new lease as well try and get him to come in and make some repairs. There has been no response.
Yesterday we received a letter in the mail, addressed to my roommate, who's name is on the lease, and a Bridget Hanson?, and Deborah? What the fuck? He doesn't even have a clue who is living in this place. The lease that we do have, has had a million names scratched out and notes written all over it, from the various people who have moved in. He says, our rent is going up $100 due to higher expenses, and that we need to put our names on that lease and mail it back to him.
Firstly, what expenses? We pay ALL utilities and services. Secondly, how can he raise rent like that? And if we scratch our names in somewhere on this sheet and send it in, it still says our rent is $1200. So, how on earth does this work?
We cannot get a hold of him, and have tried to get a new lease out of him and get the proper paperwork together. One of my roomies wants to just keep paying our regular rent until we have an actual lease, and until he comes in and takes care of some things or upgrades some stuff. I think if he wants us to just sign what we have, then our rent would stay at $1200, with the noted discount for paying up front.
I mean come on. Its not a bad situation, but its just stupid the way its occurring. Bah. Oh well.
