So it's been a pretty crazy week or so. The weekend of my Eve Eve party, I developed 'dry sockets'. It's basically when a clot doesn't form over the wisdom tooth extraction site. So instead of having a nice little healed spot, I had two open holes in my mouth with bone and nerves exposed. Probably the most painful thing I've ever dealt with. And on top of that, I had a head cold, so I was toast. Saturday morning was dreadful, but for some reason the pain kind of tapered off. Then late Saturday/early Sunday it returned and I almost went to the ER. I ended up getting some anbesol, lots of pain killers, and nasal strips, which did the trick.
I still managed to do all my food shopping for X-mas Eve Eve on Saturday. And, mostly thanks to Rob's help, got all the food prepared for Sunday.
The party was probably my favorite yet. So man people came. I lost count, but I think it was around 40. I'm also glad we decided to make food, because that shit got devoured. We ended up having the sausage and peppers that Rob and I made (fuckin delicious!), veggie stir fry, two trays of lasagna (my daddy's, the fuckin best), and some Swedish meatballs (my moms' contribution, also bangin). We also had a good amount of desserts and goodies, including Mar's cake, Ed's cookies, etc. One of my favorite things was the punch bowl... it made me feel oh so classy. I don't know, I guess having home cooked food made it feel like all the family parties I used to go to, and it brought back good memories.
The gag gifts were awesome as usual. Definitely a highlight of every Eve Eve party. I love all my friends, new and old. The night ended with a viewing of Super Bad that lasted until around 4 am. Good stuff.
Monday morning I was up at around 8:30 because of my gums. Finally I was able to go see my surgeon, since he wasn't available all fucking weekend. All he did was shove clove oil-soaked gauze in my gum holes. They soothed the pain for most of Monday, which ended up being a lazy day. Rob and I just sat around and watched movies/Scrubs.
On Christmas I woke up around 4 am because the clove shit wore off. I was desperate to fall asleep, so I took some sleeping pills. Big mistake. I passed out pretty well, but at 9:45 (when my dad busted in to wake me up) I was still quite dead. I made it through the day, though. And it was actually really nice. I got a bunch of presents... things I needed, like new socks, some thermals, and a sweater. I also got random gifts, like three little swallows to hang on my wall and a bunch of panda things. And a puzzle.
Oh, and I also got a brand new fucking desktop computer. I'm a bit baffled. I didn't think my parents were going to get it for me because I couldn't really make up my mind as to what to get. And the deal was that I would have to pay for half of it. And I'm still going to give them money towards it. I think I'll have to do it in payments though. I need to save for Paris.
But yeah, brand new computer. It seems like it's going to be really powerful, too. And a scanner/printer. There are four things that I'm worried about. One, the video card. It needs to be good for doing design work, and I'm pretty sure my dad checked up on that. Worst case scenario, I just get a better one down the road. Not a big deal. Two, I'm worried about Vista. I've heard lots of bad things, and I don't know if a lot of my programs will even run on Vista. Or if I can even get my stolen Adobe crap to work regardless. So I made have to switch it back to XP. Three, it doesn't have a WiFi thing in it like my laptop, because most desktops are stationary and just plugged directly into a ethernet cable. However, I'm probably taking it over to Rob's apartment, which will require me to get some sort of WiFi thing... either a card or a USB adapter. So that's annoying. The last worry is just, finding a place for it. I obviously want to use this thing, but I don't know where I'll be able to put it at Rob's, and I feel bad hogging their space with it. We'll see.
I only have these worries because it's a huge deal to me. Getting this laptop was big, but this is a junky laptop. I'm going to be using this computer after I'm done with school, so it's got to be good. I think I'll probably get a better monitor down the road, too. 19" is good for now, especially with my lack of space. But it's not really a great quality monitor, which is fine again is okay for now. After all, I didn't really expect to get this computer at all. So the tower itself is my top concern.
Anyway, all these money concerns I have were not helped today when Rob and I purchased a refurbished Xbox 360, 20 gig hard drive, and three games (used buy two, get one free, so it wasn't that bad). We saved a ton by doing what we did, but it was still quite a dent. It's okay though. It'll be worth it. And I know how happy it will (hopefully) make him, so no worries.
Oh, and Rob bought me a new coat for Christmas. It's perfect, really... because at the time, I didn't even know what kind of coat I wanted. I liked all those puffy ones with the fake fur on the hoods, but I couldn't find one that I really liked. I wanted a more grown up, semi-dressy looking coat. Something slightly nicer than the dumpy coats I have. And Rob managed to find one that was perfect. So he wins. <3
I guess that pretty much brings things up to speed. I'm going to continue working (yes, at 3 AM) because I'm stressed and overly money-conscious at the moment.
