so what's up with being stoned?

thelovecat08: this question in philosophy has puzzled me
evilyetti: shoot
thelovecat08: considering that god is omnipotent, can he create a stone so big that he cannot lift it?
thelovecat08: if it's too big, he can't lift it
thelovecat08: he's not omnipotent
thelovecat08: if he can't creat it, he's not omnipotent
evilyetti: i think a better question would be WOULD he create a stone so big that he couldn't lift it
evilyetti: that could be an explanation to the abandonment of traditional religion in the world today
thelovecat08: hm..elaborate.
evilyetti: well
evilyetti: ok. say it's possible that he could create one so big, through misjudgement or overlooking some detail, that he couldn't lift it
thelovecat08: kay
evilyetti: that stone being managing the people, rather than just lifting a stone
evilyetti: now. say that he did create adam and eve
evilyetti: but, an unprecedented thing happens, and he has to banish them
thelovecat08: kay
evilyetti: mercifully, however, he allows them to live. just outside of his kingdom.
evilyetti: so, he has this hyper-procreative race that's no longer inside his will
evilyetti: in earlier times, we were close to his bec and call
evilyetti: visions were common, all that jazz
thelovecat08: yeah
evilyetti: god was an everyday part of life. denying that there was one, in some form, was impossible
evilyetti: however, it's NOT common any more to even have anything to do with god
evilyetti: outside of places like the south, where it's everywhere
evilyetti: and even that's rare
evilyetti: so...did he create something he couldn't manage?
thelovecat08: whoa, that's a good one.
evilyetti: did he let humanity slip too far out of his grasp to bring back?
thelovecat08: i like it
evilyetti: hahaha
evilyetti: i've struggled with that one on and off for a few years
thelovecat08: i might bring that one up in class
thelovecat08: i've thought about the gist of it
thelovecat08: just not under those parameters
evilyetti: i like to dive right in, lots of times
evilyetti: hahaha
evilyetti: + it helps that lots of star wars books center around philosophy
thelovecat08: just more reason to like it, duh.
thelovecat08: gosh
evilyetti: :-)
evilyetti: dur
thelovecat08: but, if you think about it, that is a good question.
thelovecat08: and now i'm thinking again
thelovecat08: that reminds of the problem of evil
thelovecat08: it's duration, magnitude, restoration, etc
evilyetti: hrm
evilyetti: that's not one i'm familiar with
evilyetti: explain.
thelovecat08: kay, so, why would god let his people stray, unless evil
thelovecat08: was necessary?
thelovecat08: like for atonement
evilyetti: that's a good point
thelovecat08: or some other reason. why would it have lasted this long (age of evil)
evilyetti: which comes to something trisha and i were talking about the other night
thelovecat08: and whyis nothign being 'done' about it?
evilyetti: in the bible hints, over and over again, that ignorance truly IS bliss
thelovecat08: is it out of his power?
thelovecat08: oh, yeah
evilyetti: that being stupid is somehow holier than the seeking of knowledge
thelovecat08: totally
evilyetti: and, ironically, modern knowledge supports that belief.
thelovecat08: i've thought that for along time
thelovecat08: that's why i can't wrap
evilyetti: there was found a strand in human dna structure
evilyetti: called "attons key"
thelovecat08: my faith around all things religisou
thelovecat08: attons key, what's that/
evilyetti: if "turned", the human brain develops longer after childbirth
evilyetti: the downside being that the entire BODY keeps developing longer
thelovecat08: whoa.
evilyetti: and that makes it easier for organs to fail and whatnot
evilyetti: (bones don't grow as easily and whatnot, larger organs don't regenerate tissue, all that jazz)
evilyetti: so. shorter life span but more knowledge
thelovecat08: yeah
thelovecat08: hrm.
evilyetti: now, in biblical times, noah and friends supposedly lived to 900 something
evilyetti: which, with attons key, is entirely possible
evilyetti: and that would match with the fact that in the middle ages, people were supposedly 5'7 at the tallest
evilyetti: attons key could be a progressive thing, slowly leading humanity towards the "tree of knowledge"
thelovecat08 is idle at 8:36:13 PM.
evilyetti: but, out of gods kingdom
