I'm going to have more than one Yuletide fic ready for beta shortly after Thanksgiving. Since I've momentarily run out of gorgeously prosed but rapidly plotted teen fantasy novels, I decided to watch the first couple episodes of Teen Wolf. Some thoughts:
1. This might be the worst thing I've watched in recent memory. But it's still kind of entertaining somehow? maybe it's the chest shots and injury porn
2. On any other show, Stiles would be unbearably annoying, but here I can tell why he's the fan favorite. The only thing I don't get is why he's friends with Scott.
3. Holy God, Scott is as dull as a bag of bricks. I was willing to give him a shot because Tyler Posey's so delightful to look at, but I can't stand him. Somebody please tell me he gets more interesting.
4. I am so totally done with "she's a sweet, innocent angel and her daddy wants me dead" plotlines. I'm (fruitlessly) hoping that Allison is actually a hunter too and is using her feminine charms to lure Scott to her father. Any real conflict with Allison would make this a million times more bearable.
5. Jackson's puuurdy, and Lydia's my favorite. I would be happy if this show was just Lydia and Stiles snarking at everything while Jackson wandered shirtless in the background.
6. Every time Derek materializes out of thin air, I crack up. ("a few years older than us," really?)
7. I also love Mama McCall.
8. FUCKING WOLVES. One of my hugest nitpicks with werewolf media is when the wolves are dumb CGI anthro monstrosities instead of actual wolves (HP, I'm looking at you). It's stupid, but it might actually keep me from watching something. The half-furry version that's obviously inspired by the movie isn't quite as bad, but if the fight scenes are going to make me long for Twilight, you know something's wrong.
So, should I stick it out? Is the man-candy worth it? Did I make the right decision by not putting this on tumblr? I gather that not liking Scott makes me racist or something, but I'm more baffled that there are enough Scott fans for people to make that leap.
