Most of you probably remember that the building near mine caught fire about a month ago and several families were homeless. I don't recall if I mentioned that Kassette and I were taking care of one of the family's pet hamster, Sandwich.
Well, the kiddo started to get attached to the hamster and kept asking if she could have one. Knowing that my daughter isn't the greatest saver in the world, I told her she could have one when she could buy a cage and the hamster herself. I figured she wouldn't be able to do it and it would gradually fade from memory. It always works.
The family came to pick up the hamster today. I had gotten the hamster anew cage because the firemen cracked Sandwich's when they rescued him and she was figuring out how to get out. It was my gift to them--the least I could do considering they lost EVERYTHING. The mom offered to pay for it and I refused the money. So what did she do? She paid my daughter $50 for keeping and taking care of Sandwich for the month.
That's more than enough to get a hamster, cage, food and litter. *sigh* DARNIT!!! What's the first thing she asks when we get inside the house? "Can we go get my hamster now. I have enough."
Well crap. I didn't want another rodent type pet right now. We already have three guinea pigs. *grumble* I want a dog, not a hamster!
Guess what we are doing tomorrow? That's right. Getting a hamster because I promised if she saved the money, she could get one.
