I have loads of things to blog about, and probably will because I finally have a day off today, but first of all...
Madeleine McCann. I know it's awful, what's happened to her, but it does annoy me how the news story has been blown totally out of proportion. That's the news story, please note, not the importance of the incident. And £2.5m reward? As
jen_c_w said, that money could go towards helping millions of other children in poverty, in abusive homes, in danger. Some guy who the police questioned and released without charge is now being hounded by the media and his life ripped to shreds - similar to what happened in the Suffolk murders. There's a bloody Facebook group for Madeleine now, and a Myspace for crying out loud! And I got sent a chain email this morning from a friend who should know better urging the reader to forward it to everyone they knew to 'support' the search for Madeleine. It had a nasty little virus attatched to it, surprise surprise.
Also, is no one else going to mention the irresponsibility of this girl's parents? They went off to have dinner and left her completely unsupervised in a holiday villa? They don't deserve to have children, it's just a shame one had to be taken away from them in such an horrific manner. And now they're feeding the media frenzy with little tidbits every day to keep the story in the headlines. I wish I could recreate in text the cynicism and disgust of the fast expulsion of breath from my curled lip. Pffft.
Also, she's dead isn't she? Surely? And it's sad how inevitable that is. But I wish everyone would just stop harping on about her and let her memory have a bit of peace.
