Last night, I dreamt that there was some sort of meet up lunch to talk about the release of the Watchmen movie.
It was in a banquet hall of some sort. There were big round tables with chairs and there was plenty of food to go around; I specifically remember eating in the dream, but I think the food would have been strange to my waking mind. At one point, somebody at my table was telling me that people were going to try to look deeper into the film, but they wouldn't understand it. I think they were trying to say that you had to get to the book to really have a chance to understand it, and I'm not sure they're entirely wrong. So I guess I really wanna see the Watchmen movie, huh?
That got me thinking about the movies due out this year that I will be trekking to the theaters to see:
Fanboys
Release date: 02/06/09
I'm a geek, so I want as many of my favorite geeks to go with me as I can manage for this one.
Watchmen Release date: 03/06/09
I'm hoping to assemble a decent group to go see this film, but I have to show them the graphic novel first. My friend Rich is reading my copy currently; Niki is next, and then whoever else tells me they haven't read it.
Star Trek Star date: 05/08/09
I don't care if a whole bunch of folks don't go with me for this one. I know a few Trek fans, though, that might be interested.
Up
Release date: 05/29/09
It's Pixar, and my friend Matt suggested it, which means I have to see it. This might be a good one to take my mom to.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine Release date: 05/01/09
All the king's horses and all the king's men will be at this damned movie, I'm sure. And my friend Kimba is sure to be there, drooling. =)
Terminator Salvation Release date: 05/22/09
Is it just me, or does Christian Bale as John Connor sound close to the epitome of awesome? He might just help us forget about the last Terminator flick, and that is saying something. I'll have to grab at least a few folks for this one.
Toy Story in 3D
Fall 2009
Yes, we've seen it before. I don't care if no one will go with me, damn it, I'm seeing Toy Story in 3D.
The thing is, I don't go see movies on opening night any more. The horrendously long waits just don't seem worth it. I want to have a chance in hell of getting a good seat and I'm hoping to avoid the crowds that are so rowdy that they never quite shut up. So I'll be waiting a few weeks to see all of these films after they're released; I'm hoping that my friends will wait long enough to go with me. I don't need big groups for all the movies I see but it's a great excuse to get everyone together.
