Chistopher Reeves was a super man.
In 1978 he made a movie that would be a regular part of my childhood. He became Superman for my generation.
In 1995 he fell from a horse and began a fight that I would hear about regularly over the next 10 years. He became Superman for more than my generation then, because he refused to give up.
I guess you could say he's been a small part of my whole life to date. I was proud of Superman. I needed Superman. It can feel too easy to give up, to despair, to throw up your hands. I was bolstered every time I saw him because he simply refused. I am not ashamed to say that all of my life, I have needed Superman.
Now that he is dead, I must admit that I may always need Superman. And some part of me will always miss Christopher Reeves.
