There are things only she can hear. Like a praying mantis she stands, every sound he makes magnified in her ears. She hears his walk, a distinctive pattern, the timing off as he settles his cane and leans his right side on it. She hears him 'walk the dog'.
But most of all she hears in between the silences. Like a plastic bubble, it creates an echo effect around him. And although it seems impenetrable, she knows that there is a way in. A way to break the sound barrier.
