vavaverity gave me the letter B. I am now to choose ten things that begin with B and write what I like about them. I will assign a letter to anyone who comments on this post, so that you, too, may waste ridiculous amounts of your valuable work time.
1. Oh, how can I not start with Bacon. I don't know why I'm so in love with it. The crispiness, the saltiness, especially when wrapped around something sweet (bacon-wrapped dates are one of my favorite snacks). I have four varieties of bacon in my freezer right now.
2. Bingoes (anagram: BIOGENS) - They are an important part of Scrabble, and thus make my top ten list. Yesterday, in two games, I found SYRINgE, REcLINE, UNMATED, EnTITlED, and at least one or two others... too bad two of them were on Tim's rack, and thus made me lose one of our games.
3. Border collies - I have one. He is well trained. He sits at the post outside of my building and will not move until I come out the door. Also, yesterday, he saw a possum on the path and ran over to it, but didn't eat it when I told him not to. He came within a foot of it, and just took a herding pose and hung out. It was amazing. I can't believe he didn't try to eat it.
4. Breyer horses - one of my first obsessive collections. They're realistic-looking plastic horses, in a huge variety of breeds and colors, some modelled after real horses. I must have a couple of hundred in my parents' house, in a closet somewhere. I went as far as doing live "horse shows" with them. I had a few that had been taken from their original plastic finish and repainted, remodeled, and even given hair (here's an example of one, if you're curious).
5. Blue Moon Fiber Arts - I am getting increasingly picky about the handpainted yarns that I covet since I dye so many of my own now, but these are toward the top of the list. They are most famous for their "Socks that Rock" yarn, but everything they make is just gorgeous. Mmm.
6. Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream - especially coconut almond fudge chip and cherry garcia. so tasty.
7. Bailey's Irish Creme - again with the tasty. Other tasty things: basmati rice; beef; bagel chips; biscuits and gravy; blood oranges.
8. Birthdays - I like to celebrate them, whether with a party, or with a nice dinner with a couple of people. I also like presents. I admit it. Something small and useful, or something extravagant and unnecessary - all presents that seem like thought has gone into their giving. I love giving em at least as much as receiving em. And now I'm completely off the topic of birthdays. What starts with B and means "presents"?
9. B & 6th, NYC - more or less where one of my favorite people lives, whom I love to visit, and I miss a lot. B places I'd like to visit: Belize; British Columbia; Belgium; Bar Harbor, ME; Bordeaux region, France.
10. Bait Machines - when I lived in Ohio, we drove by a Vend-a-Bait machine when travelling out of town, and it cracked me up that you could put in your quarters and buy some crayfish, 24 hours a day. You never know when you might need some crayfish.
