"The black and white gallery shows a range of calligraphic styles, including logos, titles, designs for signage and packaging, writing done for films and quite few free calligraphic experiments. These examples give a sense of what is possible using a range of traditional and unconventional writing instruments. In many ways, calligraphy is the opposite of typography. Where typography seeks balance, clarity and optimal legibility, calligraphy seeks expression and a dynamic composition of black and white elements. Legibility is by no means excluded from this process, though it does depend on the function and context of the work in question. When designing a logo, title or identity I will experiment with a number of pens and styles until I find the style and composition that speaks the words as they need to be spoken, the perfect marriage of verbal and visual content"
