Another book for 2006

8. The Dragon Knight by Gordon R. Dickson- I've been meaning to read this for a while since I've read the first book in the series, The Dragon and the George, and found it interesting. As a sequel, this is pretty much more of the same, the same basic plot formula in some ways. I liked the parts that compare the way a modern man and a medieval man thinks and their different reactions to things. The logic behind the magical system is interesting too, with an Accounting Department and a magical balance and how he swallows the magical Encyclopedia so he has all the knowledge, he just has to learn to use it. I think overall though the book is bland. I wish there was more of Sir Brian and Dafydd doing something other than just helping Jim, and the women are practically nonexistant in the book. I like Carolinus even though sometimes I think he explains things more than the reader needs. I think it's an interesting read because Jim is a modern man trying to work by medieval rules, but I could live without it.
