Fables and Saudi

It's exam time and everyone knows what *that* means right? Yup. Time to read fiction like a mad thing in hopes that the world will end while I was busy and I'll never actually have to take any exams.

So I just discovered this new comic series, and DAMN. It is SO GOOD. Especially for a literary nerd like me. It's called Fables and it's about all the familiar fairy-tale characters we all think we know who've been uprooted from their world and now have to live in ours. It's funny and sad and mysterious and all kinds of good things:)
I was also reading Y: The Last Man, which is about a world in which all the men are dead except one teenage boy. It's a bit scary sometimes but interesting. Not scary like Frankenstein, but more like "what is this world coming to?".
And last but not least, I'm reading a Meg Cabot book called Every Boy's Got One, and its fun like her books usually are but this paragraph is bothering me:

HE has to have written a book about-get this-how Saudi Arabia’s oil fields are on the decline, and soon won’t be able to meet the world’s demands. This, of course, is going to crush Saudi Arabia’s economy, and have serious repercussions throughout the rest of the globe, as well.
Yeah. Who cares? Guess what, Cal? In Saudi Arabia, women aren’t allowed to vote or drive cars. Why should I care if that nation’s economy goes down the tubes? Maybe if they’d let women have some say in their country’s governance, they wouldn’t be in this sorry position in the first place.

I care!! I know this is random seeing at Meg Cabot probably didn't think anyone reading it would care about Saudi Arabia, or else would just assume the character is ditzy enough to get away with, but I just wanted to say I care. Place where I hang my hat and all.
Is Saudi Arabia's economy really that bad? This is one of those times I wish I read the newspaper and kept up with things...
