Animal cloning gets a GO because of implications in animal husbandry. *They are animals*. However, for whole humans there are more problems than just the emotional "You're playing God!" response.
Legal status (is a whole clone property or a child?) is the one that gives me pause, and while I might be able to lay legal groundwork during my presidency, it's going to be years and years after that you'd see any results. I'm all for being able to produce healthy children who will have fantastic, full lives and enrich their community, but I would lie awake in fear of being the president who had opened the door a crack to let in slavery again.
Neither stem cell research nor cloning will be funded federally. Any monies have to come from the private sector--which will be taxed at a lower rate now that they don't have to have money taken away to fund their own projects.
