It's been a busy week. Our office hosts an annual training program for new fire lookouts, and I helped put that on. There was a day of refresher training for the veteran lookouts, too, and I spent another day hauling gear up to Baptiste with a friend.
And there was our annual lookout potluck on Tuesday, which is always a great time -- a chance to reconnect with fellow lookouts before we all head off to our separate mountains for the summer. In the middle of the evening, someone called for a group photo, and after everyone was assembled a couple of our volunteer lookouts presented me with a gift -- a homemade quilt they had sewn over the winter. It was the coolest moment ever.
Here's one of the panels from the quilt:
Tomorrow morning, the dogs and I are hiking up to Baptiste to officially begin our lookout summer.
