Sorry I haven't been around too much the last few days ... it's been a long week. And of course for all of us, it's only going to get worse on Friday.
Anyhow, it's still really feeling like winter here, though it's quite a bit warmer than it was last week. It actually got above freezing today! And the sun has been shining like crazy, which makes all the difference.
There's close to a food of snow in my yard, but of course that doesn't stop Charlie and me from going out ... the dog insists on it, in fact. The snow makes him particularly happy, and when we're walking along he'll randomly flop down on the icy trail every couple of minutes and roll on his back. It must feel really good for him to cool off that way.
Anyhow, our regular afternoon hike route includes a trail at the edge of town that traverses a local sledding hill. We were coming down that hill yesterday, carefully avoiding the speeding sledders, when Charlie decided to do another roll in the snow. The hill was particularly icy, though, and as soon as Charlie flopped over on his back he started sliding down the hill, head-first and upside-down This has happened to him before, and it usually ends with him instantly righting himself in a panic ... but yesterday he just kept on sliding, probably 40 feet or so. He actually used a paw to push himself along a couple of times.
Maybe you had to be there, but it was pretty hilarious, and the other people on the hill thought so, too. One of them told me afterwards, "You have a sledding dog!"

Sadly, I have no pictures of my upside-down dog, but here's one I took on that trail a couple days ago. I love that winter sun.
