Okay. Okay, she's kind of bitter about the whole coming to work at the Warehouse just to be a little office lackey dealio, but that's not why she starts fiddling with the Tesla. She starts fiddling with it because that's what she does, and there's tons of interesting things you can do with stuff like the Tesla that Claudia's pretty sure Artie, in all his fuddy-duddy glory, would never even think of.
This definitely falls into that category, mostly because Artie's about as vanilla as vanilla gets so there's no reason he would ever ever take a Tesla and reprogram it to be a . . . It's sort of a
violet want, but not really. It does the same thing, though, and it's. Claudia doesn't know what it is about electricity that fascinates her, but it's something and she loves fiddling with electric devices and making them do things they probably weren't intended to do.
Artie asks her what she's doing while she's putting together the Tesla Wand, and she just shrugs and saying she's making some small modifications to it. Artie doesn't ask any further, just tells her to get back to sorting out the new artifacts that have been brought in recently and get back to work on that filing, young lady!
So Claudia goes back to working, albeit a little reluctantly, and tries to squeeze in an hour or so every day to work on her little side project. There's really no reason for it, because Claudia doesn't know anyone who will use it on her and it's not really the kind of thing you can use on yourself, but some part of her is horribly enamored of the idea of a Tesla violet wand and whatever. Even if there's no one to use it on her, she'll have it and it'll exist and that's good enough for Claudia.
Hell, maybe it'll even interest Myka-even though Claudia is way not looking forward to have "girl talk" with Myka-in an intellectual manner. There's a lot of history behind kink, Claudia knows, and though she doesn't know a whole lot about it, she's sure Myka can at least point her in the right direction, which is more than she can ask of anyone. She's not even sure if she'd be into other things, just know that electricity interests her and she can't help the way her heart speeds up when a twinge of electricity goes through her.
It's dangerous, Claudia does realize that, but she think that all of the best things are. If she's careful, though, she knows that the toy she's making won't be dangerous at all. Well. It'll be dangerous if it's used improperly, and it'll be dangerous if you use it for too long, Claudia assumes, but if it's just for play then it should be fine. Even using Teslas to knock people out doesn't really seem to have a lot of long-standing effects on people. Unless you're talking about the whole memory loss thing, but that's not the normal usage of a Tesla anyway.
Claudia looks down at the Tesla in her hands, running her fingers over it and smiling. It looks like some kind of crazy steampunk beast-like one of those kind of gorgeous steampunk vibrators Claudia found during a particularly ill-advised late-night search for . . . Well, she doesn't actually remember what she was looking for to begin with, but it certainly wasn't that.
Anyway. None of that is the point. The point is that her Tesla gun is awesome and now she just needs to wait for the right moment to use it.
