Fandom/Pairings: BBC!Sherlock; Sherlock+John
Rating: PG-13
Pre-Notes: Roleplay (wildcard square) for
kink_bingo, on
this card. Also for the wilcard square (Any Kind of Guy, Big Time Rush) on my
music bingo card. There's some asexuality from a non-asexual's perspective here, so it's a little unflattering at times.
Disclaimer: Oh god no, I'm not that brilliant.
Summary: Sherlock, John has noticed, has a bad habit of pretending to be someone he isn't in order to get what he wants.

Sherlock, John has noticed, has the habit of pretending to be someone he isn't in order to get what he wants. It's not that John thinks that Sherlock shouldn't lie, because he realizes that asking Sherlock to stop lying would be like asking someone else to stop breathing. No, it's just that sometimes Sherlock transforms into a different person and John has to play along with Sherlock.
He's not always sure what Sherlock's doing, and sometimes John feels as though Sherlock treats him largely like a prop to be used whenever convenient. For the most part, Sherlock treats everyone like that so John doesn't feel particularly bad about floundering when they're out on a case and Sherlock pulls John flush against him and tilts his head up before crushing their lips together. John fights his first instinct to push Sherlock away and lets himself melt into the kiss a little. It's just, John tells himself, to make the kiss look good.
Except that's not the truth. The truth is that John enjoys the kiss a little more than he should and Sherlock doesn't even notice. When he's accomplished what he's wanted, he lets John go and then everything's back to normal.
Sometimes something in Sherlock shifts and he's suddenly someone that John hardly recognizes. Sometimes it's the clothes that he's wearing, sometimes it's just the way he's talking, but it's always kind of like a game for John to figure out what role he's supposed to be playing. It's not usually that hard, because Sherlock takes no chances and he gives John clues as to what he's supposed to be doing.
It's something that John is getting better at, and Sherlock seems to be proud of John whenever he gets something right. John notices that Sherlock's stopped pulling other people into his schemes and he only uses John. He doesn't even know how Sherlock formulates his scenes to include John, but he does and John kind of never wants it to stop.
There's no way for John to know if Sherlock understands the implications of what they're doing, but he suspects that Sherlock does and has disregarded that as unusable information like so many other things (planets in the solar system, how to do laundry, ect) that he's deemed unnecessary.
That's fine with John, though. He's not sure that he would know how to handle their relationship if Sherlock wasn't married to his work and pretty wholly uninterested in anything even closely resembling a romantic entanglement. Or a sexual one, John thinks, because he sometimes thinks that Sherlock might have discarded the part of him that knows sex can be pleasurable or maybe forgotten that sex can be anything other than reproductive.
Just as John has the horrifying image of Sherlock with a baby, Sherlock is lacing their fingers together and swinging their hands slightly. John's not quite sure what's going on, but Sherlock needs something and he's determined that this is the best way to get it so John adjusts his body language accordingly. The situation will make perfect sense in a moment, he's sure, but for now all he can do is play along.
