I cannot speak of what's happened today yet, I'm still afraid that I'm going to wake up. So in lieu of that, here's an essay about musicians, and why they attract others like screaming bees to sexy, leather (or lace) clad flowers

I'm the same way, or used to be. Most actors I only know by name because I'll say "oh hey X movie is good" to someone and they'll start talking about the actors in it and other movies they've been in and stuff. Some actors I like enough to research a little, but I don't really go out of my way. I do start to recognize actors after I've seen them in four or five movies, though.

I really don't know many performers, though. I mean, ones I'm a fan of. XD Renee Fleming is one of my favorite soprano opera singers, I have three of her CDs (including a beautiful jazz album) and I read her autobiography, but I forgot most of it after. XD And I couldn't tell you anything about Eva Cassidy or Loreena McKennitt's lives, or most of the other musicians I listen to. I don't really care about them personally.

I think a lot of people do it because they want to feel closer to the performers. That's why tabloids are so popular, because that means you can comment on the life of a celebrity the same way you can comment on the life of your secretary or cousin or something. I, personally, don't feel the need for that.
