KiScon 2017 Update #4
With a little under three months to KiScon, we’re about to engage warp drive! We’re both busy putting all the details of our plan into place to give you a great convention. Please read the points below, as they contain relevant information.
Membership fees
If you’re reading this on one of our social media platforms and haven’t signed up yet, please be aware that our final discount on the membership fee ends on July 15th. On this date, it will go up to the full price of $150.
To those of you who have already signed up, do you know anyone who’s planning to attend KiScon, but hasn’t yet joined? Please remind them about the end of the membership discount and tell them to sign up quick!
Panels
Voting is now open for the panels that will take place during the convention! If you’ve already joined you should have received a link to vote and volunteer to moderate. If you haven’t yet joined, sign up now so you can have your say about what you want to see at the convention!
Art Show
Please let Liz know (art@kiscon.org) if you’re planning to bring art to the con, either to display in the show, or to sell at the auction. It doesn’t have to be your own art - it can be art you’ve acquired along the way! Please ensure it’s either an original or an authorized print, and not a photocopy. Items in the auction can either be privately sold with a commission of 10% to the con, or you can donate all proceeds to the con (with profits going to the convention charity).
Vid Show
Amok Time Reloaded - the KiScon vid competition is happening! The con is taking place to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the airing of Amok Time - an episode that blessed us with footage of epic proportions and can be found in so many K/S vids already that it ranks easily among the most recognizable and even over-vidded scenes.
And this is where our competition comes into play:
We want you, dear vidder, to take this over-vidded footage and/or its tropes, and remix and transform them to your heart’s content.
A prize will be offered for the winning Amok Time Reloaded entry, as decided by the attending convention members. And don’t forget our regular vidshows are also taking place and awaiting your submissions! Deadline for vid submission (preferably by Dropbox or similar download link): 15 Aug 2017. We cannot accept submissions at the convention.

Dealers and opportunities for selling items at the convention
If you have things you would like to sell at the convention, we plan to have designated time slots on Saturday and Sunday for a “bring and buy sale.” We can either sell your items on your behalf during these time slots, or you can set up your own table. If you would like your own table, please let us know so that we can make sure there are enough available.
As KiScon is a small convention we have not found it worthwhile to have a permanent dealers’ room set up. However, if you especially want a dealer’s table for the duration of the con, we do have space so just let us know.
Remember that prints and craft items can also be sold through our art auction.
Finally, a reminder that any zines you’re planning to sell must be an original.
Facebook Live
We wanted to inform members that Rhaegal’s science talk will go out on Facebook Live, so that people who can’t attend KiScon, can share a small piece of it with us. We want to reassure all members that the camera will be static and only point at Rhaegal - we will make absolutely certain that audience members will not be in view, and we won’t go live until after everyone is seated. The way we’ll handle the Q&A session following the talk is that we’ll place a sheet of paper on every seat, and if you have any questions for Rhaegal, you can write them down if you don’t want your voice on camera. When her talk ends, we’ll collect up all the questions and she’ll read and answer them one by one.
Hotel Booking
We are aware that some members have had trouble with our room block being listed as sold out on some nights. If this happens to you, please email to let us know asap. At the time of writing, we are working to resolve this issue with the hotel.
Room Sharing
One of our members is looking for someone to share a room with. If you’d be willing to share, please let us know and we’ll put you in touch.
A reminder for those who would like to share a room to help spread the cost, we have a page on our website that only members can access. Several have already listed there. If you have already joined the convention you should have received the link and password: new members will receive the details by email upon signing up.
