Disclaimer: My cousin Jorn, whom I've never been terribly close to, was a mechanic for a truck or something that fired or towed something that fired
Copperheads - possibly the
M270. He received a knee injury from a piece of shrapnel, if I recall correctly, during our military's earlier visit to Iraq. But, I have no family in this war, nor friends. I tell you that having friends or family there now would not change the opinion I'm about to express, but there is of course no way to ascertain that. I'm confident that it is the case, if that makes you feel any better.
To all those of you who say that we must withdraw now from Iraq, I say
fuck you right in your stupid, stupid ear.
Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. - George Santayana
We learn from history that we learn nothing from history. - G. Bernard Shaw
(I do not know if those quotes are entirely accurate. In order to be at least mildly confident of their accuracy, I googled for them and took the top choice.)
Learn to read for comprehension, people. There is more at stake here. Whether we should be there or not, a sudden withdrawal will cause more problems than it solves.
How many US soldiers have died? The answer is, too damn many. But that changes my statement not one whit. How many Iraqis will die, how many will suffer, if we just give up because a small few thousand US troops have died? Because I assure you, "small few thousand" is a good way to describe what has happened to US troops, when compared with what will happen at the moment of our sudden withdrawal.
Sometimes, the needs of the many really must outweigh the needs of the few.
And if you say "it's not our problem", I'll say "it is now". And if you say "they're only doing it because we're their, they will stop when we leave," then I will shake my head sadly, and call the men with white coats, because you're clearly too lacking in basic intelligence to so much as feed yourself.
