Headshot!

So, woke up this morning to discover that the old round Honeywell thermostat was busted. How did we discover this? The chattering teeth were the first clue, and nothing happening when I cranked the heat all the way up was the second clue.

Anyway, I didn't really know what to do, but the pilot light never went out, so I figured the problem was the little wall unit. I've seen them taken apart before, seen the little mercury switch, etc, and figured on a heat only system, we're talking about two wires or so.

Confirmed with my boss the probable diagnoses, and started prying it off the wall. Got far enough along that I felt like I could get the right one probably, and went to the hardware store.

I picked out one that is heater only, and came home to sort it out.

Didn't take long - would have taken near half the time, but the phone rang and I dropped a screw I needed while trying to answer it. The boy is sick, you see, and making the phone stop ringing so she could sleep while he is sleeping seemed like a good idea. It was a call from Canada, and they hung up. So, I dunno.

Once I got it installed, set it to just under 70, and the heat came on, I got the same rush I get from a good headshot. You know, good as opposed to lucky.

I feel like I've defeated the forces of evil. It was a small victory, but a meaningful one nevertheless.

House is warming up nicely now.

Why do I feel such feelings of "victoly" over this? Is this why many guys work around their house regularly?

homework, introspection
