There is an ongoing discussion of the relative beauty of men vs women on
Weingarten's chat. Can't remember now if it was this week or last that a gay man compared David to Mona Lisa and used that as an arguement for Men being the better looking sex objectively. A specious arguement at best, comparing David and the Mona Lisa, but it did spark some discussion to the effect of "can you divorce your sexuality from your opinion of which sex is objectively more beautiful?" So far, the one gay guy who started it most recently is nearly the only one that has indicated that men are the more beautiful. Heterosexual women are in agreement with the position that is obviously going to be taken by all heterosexual men.
My thoughts will be sent to Gene, but they will be edited to remove the Geek, and they will probably not get posted anyway. As usual.
Best quote so far:
Gaithersburg, Md.: I just had to comment on the "Men Rock" guy who stated that he and all of his gay buddies agree that David outshines the Mona Lisa. I am a straight female. All of my straight female friends agree: Women are far more aesthetically appealing, hands down, every time, no contest. The smooth curves of a woman's body, the sleek lines of her legs and back, the narrow waist leading to the swell of hips.. This is pure beauty. Men? No offense intended (I love my man dearly), but men tend to be sharp angles, disproportionate, lumpy, and hairy. No contest.
Gene Weingarten: You've got me all hot here.
This recent discussion of men vs women resulted in a thought. Perhaps one could say that men have a more "practical" appearance and women having a more "pleasing" appearance? Evolutionarily, men seem to have been stronger and more - I want to say "chase-food-letically" but that is a stupid non-word so let's go with "athletically" - inclined. I was watching Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, I think season 1, and Batou (one of the oversized male cyborgs) said to Motoko (the cute, nearly petite cyborg main character) that she only picked that body because of aesthetic reasons, and that she should have chosen a more masculine body. His implication seemed to be that the male form would pack more devices for muscles and whatnot.
Later in that episode, there was something of a sparring match, and she put him back on his arse without half trying, but that doesn't invalidate the point that perhaps the form has followed the function?
I consider the superior beauty of woman to be one of the points of evidence for the God that I believe in. Clearly, God is a man, and he loves Women as much as you or I do.
